## Senior Software Engineer (Frontend) – Next.js & React

National Digital is hiring a full-time Senior Frontend Engineer (remote, anywhere in Australia) to lead Next.js and React delivery across a portfolio of production platforms — customer portals, booking systems, e-commerce and headless CMS builds for established Australian organisations. You'll own front-end architecture end to end: React Server Components and the App Router, TypeScript-strict codebases, Core Web Vitals budgets enforced in CI, and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility treated as an engineering requirement rather than an afterthought. Salary range $110,000–$125,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience.

### Key Responsibilities

- Lead architecture and delivery of Next.js applications, from rendering strategy (SSR, static export, edge) to release
- Own performance and accessibility quality gates in CI, including Lighthouse budgets
- Build AI-driven product features — streaming LLM interfaces, intelligent search — with the back-end team
- Work with AI-assisted engineering tools daily, and hold the quality bar on their output
- Mentor other engineers through code review and pairing
- Contribute honest engineering judgement to estimation and scoping

### Requirements

- 5+ years of professional React experience, including 3+ years with Next.js (App Router and React Server Components in production)
- Expert-level TypeScript in strict codebases
- Demonstrated performance engineering — Core Web Vitals (including INP), bundle budgets, rendering strategy
- Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA and accessible component patterns
- Experience with headless CMS platforms (Contentful, Storyblok or similar) and GraphQL/REST integration
- Design-system thinking and modern CSS architecture (CSS Modules, BEM/ITCSS or similar)
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated industry experience
- Based in Australia with full, unrestricted working rights (Australian citizen or permanent resident)
- Willingness to complete a National Police Check and provide professional references prior to commencement

### Bonus Skills / Nice to Have

- Laravel or broader back-end familiarity (Node.js, serverless)
- Vue/Nuxt experience across client codebases
- Motion and animation craft that respects prefers-reduced-motion
- Open-source contributions or public technical writing
- Experience with static-export, CDN-first architectures
